Ever felt stuck in a conversation where the person just won’t budge?
Have you tried giving advice with the best of intentions, only to be met with silence or worse, resistance?
Do you wish you had tools to help others change without pushing them?
Change doesn’t happen because we tell someone to. It happens when they want to.
Motivational Interviewing (MI) gives you the skills to guide people through ambivalence, build their confidence, and help them take ownership of their growth. This isn’t about persuasion, it’s about partnership.
What Is This Module About?
Motivational Interviewing is a two-day training designed to help volunteers develop respectful, empathic conversations that inspire change.
Rooted in the principles of collaboration, compassion, and client autonomy, this course equips you with practical tools to:
Manage resistance without confrontation
Use reflective listening and open questions effectively
Elicit “change talk” that builds motivation
Strengthen commitment to action
Through hands-on practice, guided role-plays, and peer learning, you’ll walk away with the confidence to engage even the most stuck conversations and help others move toward positive change, on their own terms.
How This Course Makes A Difference?
Helping someone change isn’t about pushing, it’s about listening.
This course trains you to become a better guide, not a fixer. You’ll learn how to recognise ambivalence, invite insight, and empower others to commit to their own goals.

Understand Ambivalence Without Judgment
Learn why people resist change and how to respond with empathy instead of pressure.

Use the OARS Skills to Build Trust

Support Goal Setting with Confidence Tools
Apply MI strategies like the Importance and Confidence Ruler to help others move from ideas to action.

Plan Forward, Not Push Forward
